Over the Fence is a free, general-interest service. Use it freely — just don’t treat it as an official record.

Not an official source

Over the Fence is a monthly snapshot compiled from councils’ published lists and is provided for general information only. It is not an official council record. Parsing public documents and geocoding addresses is imperfect, so details may be incomplete, delayed, or wrong. Always confirm anything that matters directly with the relevant council.

No warranty

The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, the information here.

Fair use of the API

There’s a simple API for “nearest consents” lookups. Please use it reasonably — don’t hammer it, scrape the whole dataset, or use it in a way that degrades the service for others. Want bulk access or a key? Get in touch.

Attribution & sources

Consent facts are sourced from the relevant councils’ publicly published lists; geocoding uses LINZ open data. Each consent is attributed to its council and dated. Over the Fence is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by any council.
